About Us

Harare Institute of Technology was established in 1988 as a National Vocational Training Centre (NVTC). Overtime, it evolved into a Technical College offering courses in automotive, electrical, and mechanical engineering, producing artisans capable of operating and maintaining machinery in industry with little or no research or generation of new technology related knowledge.

HIT conducts research, design, manufacture, develop, incubate, transfer, and commercialise technology for all sectors of the economy. Harare Institute of Technology produces highly qualified technical human capital that is creativity driven, project oriented, understand all stages of invention including idea generation and development and have the ability, stamina and courage to set up high-tech enterprises.

Admission and Applications

Applications for admission into Part 1 of the following undergraduate Bachelor of Technology (Hons) Degree Programmes are invited from candidates who meet the specified entry requirements. These are four-year full-time programmes commencing in August 2014.
For all degree programmes, candidates must have five (5) ‘O’ Level passes at Grade ‘C’ or better with passes in Mathematics, English and Science.
SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
B Tech (Hons) Degree in Chemical and Process Systems Engineering
Three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics, Chemistry and a third approved subject such as Physics, Technical Drawing, Biology and Computer Science.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in either Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND) in either Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Electronic Engineering
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics and Physics and a third approved subject such as Computer Science or Engineering Drawing.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in either Electronic Engineering or Electric Power Engineering and Control & Instrumentation plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND) in either Electronic Engineering or Electric Power Engineering and Control & Instrumentation.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Physics and Mathematics, and a third approved subject such as Chemistry or Computer Science.
OR
ational Diploma (ND) in Machine Shop, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND) in Machine Shop, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Polymer Science and Engineering
At least two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and either Mathematics or Physics.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Polymer Science/Technology or its equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience

SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY
B Tech (Hons) Degree in Food Processing Technology
Three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry and any other two in either Biology or Physics or Mathematics.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Food Processing Technology or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND) in Food Processing Technology or equivalent.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Biotechnology
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Biology and Chemistry, and a third approved subject which could be either Physics or Mathematics.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Biotechnology, Applied Biology, Biochemistry, Food Science, Chemical Technology or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND) in Biotechnology, Applied Biology, Biochemistry, Food Science, Chemical Technology or equivalent.

Bachelor of Pharmacy Honours Degree
Three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Pharmaceutical Technology or its equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology or its equivalent.

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES.
B Tech (Hons) Degree in Financial Engineering
Three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in Commercial or Science subjects including Mathematics.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Financial Engineering or equivalent with a pass in ‘O’ Level Mathematics plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma in Financial Engineering or equivalent with a pass in ‘O’ Level Mathematics.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Electronic Commerce
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes which should include one of the following: Mathematics, Accounts, or Computer Studies and any other subject(s) from the following: Business Studies, Economics, Physics or any relevant commercial subjects.
OR
A relevant National Diploma (ND) plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
A relevant Higher National Diploma (HND).

SCHOOL OF INFORMATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
B Tech (Hons) Degree in Computer Science
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes including Mathematics and Physics or Computer Science or any other relevant science subject.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Computer Studies or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND in Computer Studies or equivalent.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Information Technology
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes including Mathematics and Physics or Computer Science or any other relevant science subject.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Information Technology or Computer Studies or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND in Information Technology or Computer Studies or equivalent.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Information Security and Assurance
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes including Mathematics and Physics or Computer Science or any other relevant science subject.
OR
National Diploma (ND) in Information Technology or equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
OR
Higher National Diploma (HND in Information Technology or equivalent.

B Tech (Hons) Degree in Software Engineering

Application forms are obtainable at the Institute at a non-refundable fee of US$20.00 for Zimbabweans and US$50.00 for international applicants. The completed form should be accompanied with certified copies of the following:
Relevant academic and professional certificates
Result slips in the case of ND/HND holder applicants
National Identity Card or first three pages of a candidate’s passport
Birth Certificate
Bank Deposit Slip

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Friday, 28 March 2014 at 1600hrs.
Late applications will be considered up to Friday, 11 April 2014 upon payment of a late application fee of US$30.
