About Us

Physically, the University is located in the foothills of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Rowan County. The more than 700-acre main campus within the city limits of Morehead includes more than 50 major structures with a total replacement value of more than $650 million. Beyond the city, the University’s real estate holdings include the 320-acre Derrickson Agricultural Complex, Eagle Trace, a par-72, 6,902-yard public golf course, and 166-acres of the Browning Orchard. The instructional plant includes 135 classrooms and 150 laboratories. Housing facilities include space for approximately 2,900 students in a variety of living styles, including traditional residence halls, suites and apartments. The University has erected a space tracking system in partnership with NASA. The second component of the Space Science Center opened in 2009 — a $16.6 million instruction and research support facility

Programs Offered

Accounting

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) – Accounting track

The accounting program is designed to help students meet academic requirements for taking the CPA and other professional accounting exams. Kentucky Accountancy law requires 150 college credit hours for those taking the Uniform Certified Public Accountant examination.

Adult and Higher Education, Education Specialist (EdS)

The Specialist in Education degree program offers students who have demonstrated superior scholastic ability and special interest and aptitude in certain areas the opportunity to gain a high level of competency in a chosen specialized field for service at the post-secondary level.

Adult and Higher Education, Master of Arts

This program is designed to develop the capacity of individuals to plan, organize, and carry through a variety of education and service programs to meet adult learners’ needs in postsecondary and adult continuing education institutions. This program is not approved for rank change for public school teachers.

Agribusiness

The Agribusiness Program at Morehead State University is an option of the area of concentration in agricultural sciences.  Agriculture core courses are provided as the framework for the degree with ancillary courses in accounting, management, finance and marketing.  It is a diverse agricultural program providing “hands-on” opportunities in various animal and plant laboratories with a significant contribution of business courses offered in the College of Business and Public Affairs.

Agriculture Education

The Agriculture Education Program at Morehead State University is an option of the area of concentration in agricultural sciences. Agriculture core courses are provided as the framework for the degree with ancillary courses in agricultural mechanics, agronomy, horticulture, agribusiness, animal sciences and education.  It is a diverse agricultural program providing hands-on opportunities in various animal and plant laboratories with a significant contribution of education courses offered in the College of Education.

Agriculture Major

 

The major in agriculture is a bachelor degree program covering all aspects of agriculture.  Agriculture core courses are provided as the framework for the degree with ancillary courses in animal sciences, horticulture, agronomy, agribusiness and agricultural mechanics.  Students will gain a working knowledge of production systems in the region.  It is a diverse agricultural program providing hands-on opportunities in various animal and plant laboratories. This program requires a minor.

Agronomy

The Agronomy Program at Morehead State University is an option of the area of concentration in agricultural sciences. Agriculture core courses are provided as the framework for the degree with ancillary courses in weed science, soil conservation, feeding and other related courses. This program provides hands-on opportunities in various plant laboratories.

Animal Science

The Animal Science Program at Morehead State University is an option of the area of concentration in agricultural sciences.  It is a bachelor degree program covering all aspects of agricultural enterprises in association with livestock in the region.  Agriculture core courses are provided as the framework for the degree with ancillary courses in animal production and management, reproduction, breeding and nutrition.  This program provides hands-on opportunities in various animal laboratories and at the Derrickson Agriculture Complex, the University’s 325-acre working farm, which houses horses, beef cattle, swine and sheep.

Appalachian Studies Minor

The Appalachian studies program offers students diverse opportunities for academic study, service learning, participatory research, community outreach, and advocacy related to the Appalachian region.

Art

The Bachelor of Arts degree with a major or an area of concentration in art provides for the study of art within a liberal arts curriculum. Emphasis is placed upon the study of studio art. It is suitable for preparing students for careers in art other than teaching art in the public schools.

Art Education P-12

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education P-12 with a major or an area provides for the study of art within a liberal arts curriculum. Emphasis is placed upon the study of art education and studio art. The program is suitable for preparing students for careers in teaching art in the public schools and meets teacher certification requirements.

Art, Master of Arts

The Department of Art offers you three individual paths towards earning your Master of Arts in Art degree. This 30 hour degree enables you to choose from three Concentrations: Art Education, Graphic Design, and Studio Art.

Arts Administration – Minor in Arts Administration

The Arts Administration minor, a 24 credit hour program at Morehead State University, provides management skills in the arts and non-profit sector in preparation for future career opportunities.

Arts Entrepreneurship Minor

As a student studying arts entrepreneurship, you will acquire the skills needed to create your own market-based opportunities in the arts.

Astrophysics

The bachelor’s degree program in astrophysics is designed to prepare students for graduate-level work in the field. The curriculum is rigorous enough for graduates to pursue a diverse number of careers after graduation, or to pursue advanced degrees. Graduates will have a marketable set of skills, knowledge of physics, laboratory experience, adaptability and critical thinking to pursue a professional career in a variety of scientific fields.

Biology

The program in Biology is broad-based with many career options. The hallmark of the program is a core set of courses that all students must take, thus assuring uniformity in the basic fields of biology.  Students could choose a career in one of the following fields:  pharmacy, medicine, optometry, environmental science, physical therapy, chiropractic, dentistry, physician assistant, teaching, podiatry and other fields as qualified.
